SP accused in both cases

Dashrath Shankhwar, one of the two candidates who has filed nomination papers for the Kannauj Lok Sabha by-election against SP nominee Dimple Yadav, has been reported missing since yesterday, according to a complaint sent to the Election Commission and the local administration by his party Sanyukta Samajwadi Party.

In a fax to the Kannauj Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar Singh and the EC,party president Om Prakash Singh Kohri alleged that Shankhwar had been kidnapped by Samajwadi Party (SP) men. However,Shankhwar’s family has not lodged any complaint.

The SP confirmed having received the complaint. He said that Shakhwar’s family had told the police that he left home at 11 am on Wednesday and had since not contacted them.

Meanwhile, the Peace Party alleged that its leader Maulana Shafqat Taqi, who was asked to file papers for the by-election,and 11 other party workers were kidnapped from the party office in Kannauj on Tuesday night by SP workers and released only after the deadline for filing nominations was over on Wednesday.
