Kailash Mansarovar pilgrims to get more subsidy

Uttar Pradesh government plans to double subsidy doled out to pilgrims of Kailash-Mansarovar Yatra to Rs 50,000,for which the Department of Religious Affairs has sent a proposal to the Chief Minister Office.

The state government had introduced the scheme of felicitating pilgrims of Kailash Mansarovar yatra in April when the issue to hike the amount of subsidy was raised,Religious Affairs Minister Anand Singh said.

The minister said average cost of yatra for a person would range from Rs 2 lakh to 2.5 lakh,and since most pilgrims could not afford the amount,the state had announced subsidy programme to pilgrims,the minister said,adding the programme will only cover devotees from UP who will be selected by the Centre.

Kailash Mansarovar yatra holds religious significance for Hindus as the Mount Kailash is believed to be the abode of Lord Shiva and hundreds of people undertake yatra every year between June and September.
