Prime Minister Manmohan Singh expressed his concern on Monday over the safety of state Congress chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi, whose Lucknow home was recently set afire allegedly by some BSP supporters.
The Prime Minister was a little concerned about my personal safety… He advised me to take care, Joshi said after meeting Singh.
Alleging that there was a breakdown in the state’s law and order situation, she said she told Singh that it was state-sponsored violence of which she was a victim. Underlining that she had no faith in the Mayawati government, she said the Congress was demanding a CBI probe into the arson, which, she alleged, took place in the presence of senior state police officers.
She said she has moved the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court, demanding a CBI probe. Regarding the controversial speech which led to her arrest, she said she had explained to the PM that it was not intentional.
