Jaiswal made public Cong brass’s stand

While the Congress on Thursday rapped Union Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal and said his statement was “unnecessary speculation”,he was merely echoing the party leadership’s stand on the possibility of Governor’s rule in Uttar Pradesh.

While the Congress on Thursday rapped Union Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal and said his statement was “unnecessary speculation”,he was merely echoing the party leadership’s stand on the possibility of Governor’s rule in Uttar Pradesh.

“We are in the running to form the government. All Congressmen should desist from unnecessary speculation,” said Congress spokesman Manish Tewari.

But top party leaders were reported to be categorical in their view that if the Congress-RLD combine does not get the required numbers to form the government, there would be “President’s rule” in the state. This had been stated first by Digvijaya Singh.

A section of the party, however, said the refrain about President’s rule was due to party’s assessment that the public perception about a post-poll tie-up between the SP and Congress was working against the latter.
