UP switches on savings: New power bill relief scheme announced, check details

The scheme, valid from December to February, will offer financial relief to domestic and small commercial consumers.

The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) has launched the ‘Bijli Bill Rahat Yojana 2025-26’ to provide financial relief to domestic and small commercial consumers. This scheme will operate from December 1, 2025, till February 28, 2026.

The Power Corporation has prepared a comprehensive relief package under which domestic consumers (up to 2 kilowatts) and shopkeeper consumers (up to 1 kilowatt) will receive special discounts on their pending electricity bills. Consumers will be able to avail a discount of up to 25% on the principal amount along with a 100% interest waiver. Additionally, consumers will be provided with the option to pay in easy monthly instalments to settle small outstanding dues.

The scheme also includes redressal of bills that have increased due to system errors or technical reasons. Such bills will be automatically reduced by the corporation’s technical system based on average consumption, eliminating the need for consumers to visit offices for bill revisions. In cases related to power theft, the opportunity for relief and settlement will be available as per the prescribed procedure, which will expedite the resolution of pending cases.

To avail the benefits of the scheme, consumers can register through http://www.uppcl.org, the UPPCL Consumer App, departmental offices, fintech agents, meter readers, or public service centres. The registration fee is Rs 2,000, which will be adjusted in the consumer’s bill.
