Beginning June, police stations in Noida have begun to compete with each other to prove that they are better than the rest. Under a new gradation system, conceptualised by senior Noida police officers, all police stations in Noida will now be marked out of 100 for monthly performance.
Under the new plan, devised to increase efficiency and accountability, officers and personnel at police stations with consistent low grades will be liable to punishment postings or suspension, while those doing well will be handsomely rewarded in professional terms.
Senior police officers said while the system came into being on June 1,it was kept under wraps as it has only been implemented on a trial basis. However, the stations have achieved remarkable increase in their efficiency, and we have seen a spurt in community policing. From June 1 to June 25,the Sector-58 police station was rated the highest, with 87 points, while the Sector-20 police station came in second with 84 points, a senior officer said.
SSP Preetinder Singh said,The stations are evaluated under the supervision of my office. We look at various aspects such as preventive policing, community poling, reaching out to RWAs,how personnel behave with the public, and efficiency in solving cases.
Singh added: As the system is in its initial phase, officers in charge of poorly-performing police stations will be let off with warnings, but will be liable for transfer and,in extreme cases, face suspension,if they continue to lag behind.
Senior officers added that a major emphasis was on solving of cases relating to gangsters in the city, with stations graded on the basis of cases cracked under the Gangster Act.
