Accuses DM of bungling selection of Ayush doctors

In the dock for virtually abducting Gonda CMO S P Singh in the middle of the night and threatening him to change the list of selected contractual Ayush doctors,Minister of State for Revenue Vinod Kumar Singh alias Pandit Singh on Thursday accused Agriculture Minister Raja Anand Singh of conspiring against him to malign his image by creating a controversy.

Both Vinod Kumar Singh and Raja Anand Singh hail from Gonda. With this, the infighting in the Samajwadi Party in the district has come out into the open.

“The incident was stage-managed by Anand Singh who, despite being in the same party,is my political adversary. He did this to harm me politically as I had challenged his son in the Lok Sabha election in 2009,” Vinod Kumar Singh told The Indian Express.

The minister, who arrived at the party office to present his case before SP leaders, said,“Anand Singh has an aristocratic mindset and could not digest that I was made a minister. He conspired with Gonda District Magistrate Abhay and implicated me in the incident.’’ It wasn’t just a coincidence that both the DM and Chief Development Officer proceeded on leave just before the select list was declared,he added.

Interestingly,Vinod Kumar Singh admitted for the first time that he had gone to the CMO’s residence on Monday night and asked him to change the select list, but gave his own explanation.

“Actually his residence is near my home. Hundreds of aspirants who could not make it to the list had arrived and raised slogans against me. I went with them to the CMO’s residence and asked him to revise the list. I knew very well it could not be done, but said this to cool the tempers of the candidates. That’s all,” Pandit Singh explained.

However,he alleged that the list had many anomalies and accused the DM of bungling the selection.

Both the Agriculture Minister and the DM denied his allegations. The Agriculture Minister said,“Even if it is accepted that I am his political adversary,I did not forcibly put the CMO in his car. First,he blamed MLA Yogesh Pratap Singh, now he is targeting me. Let there be a probe and everything will be clear. Everybody knows who can do what.”

The District Magistrate said he was a civil servant doing his job,not a politician. “If the minister had any problem with me,he could have told me,” the DM said.

As for his absence from Gonda, the DM said,“I had some meetings and later, due to personal reasons,I was on leave. Today I am joining work in Gonda. Chief Development Officer Arvind Kumar Singh is also joining tonight. Nothing much should be read into our leave. There is no panic reaction in Gonda and officers are very much at work.”

Raja Anand Singh, who hails from Mankapur estate,is MLA from Gaura. He had joined the Samajwadi Party just before the Assembly elections. Earlier,he had been Congress MP from Gonda four times till 1991.

Vinod Kumar Singh said,“I repent that I helped such a person in rejoining the party. I still touch his feet but he never looks up to me. It is Raja’s habit to create groups in his own party. Earlier,he did this in the Congress, now he is doing this in the Samajwadi Party,” he alleged.
