Extortionist arrested in Ghaziabad
GHAZIABAD: An extortionist,who allegedly demanded Rs 20 lakh from a share broker,has been arrested,police said on Thursday.
Anwar of Morta village allegedly demanded the amount over phone from Sarwan Kumar on February 5,SP (City) A K Vijayta said.
Kumar informed the police,who nabbed Anwar on Wednesday when he came at the agreed time to receive the money.
A trader Praveen was shot dead in Modinagar near here last month after extortionists demanded Rs 5 lakh from him.

‘Raped’ teen commits suicide
LUCKNOW: A teenaged girl,who was allegedly raped a week ago,committed suicide by immolating herself in Hamirpur district’s Majhgawan area on Wednesday. One person has been arrested in connection to the incident and was sent to jail after being produced in the court on Thursday. Hamirpur SP Surya Nath Singh claimed that the victim’s family had not informed the police about the rape. They came to the police only after the girl’s death. While the victim’s parents are labourers at a brick kiln in Mainpuri district,their two other daughters stay in Majhgawan area along with their maternal grandfather. According to the girl’s father,his daughter had gone to the field on February 12 when Bal Kishan of the same village raped her. When the girl told her grandfather and neighbours about the incident,they decided not to inform the police. “Unable to bear the humiliation,the girl committed suicide,” the SP said.

18 fall ill after eating sweet dish
GHAZIABAD: Eighteen people,six of them children,fell ill after consuming a sweet dish in Rawli village in Muradnagar near here,the second such incident in the past two days in the district,officials said.
All the ailing people were taken to hospital on Wednesday and later discharged. Around 50 persons of a marriage party were taken ill on Tuesday in Anwarpur village in Pilakhuwa town under similar circumstances.
