After the celebration of Holi,Diwali and Durga Puja, the widows of Vrindavan have delved into Christmas celebration, courtesy Sulabh International. Shunned by the society, these women, mostly in their seventies and eighties and living in the century-old Meerasahabhagini Ashram in Vrindavan, are revelling in happiness by singing and dancing around the Christmas tree.

The women could be seen donning Santa Claus caps and lighting self-made candles.

Sulabh International spokesperson Madan Jha informed that the grand celebration, which kicked off on Sunday, will run until the Christmas eve. The organisation, which took upon the task of ensuring food, clothing and other basic facilities to these women after the Supreme Court asked the National Legal Services Authority last year to confirm if Sulabh was willing to take the initiative, helps each woman with a monthly assistance of Rs 2,000 besides several other facilities.
