BSP chief Mayawati on Sunday said that Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik holding a press conference to highlight the work done by him in the last six months was a “new tradition”, which indicates the “weakness” and “helplessness” of the SP government.

Mayawati, who held a meeting with party leaders in Lucknow, said: “By holding a press conference to highlight the work done by him in the last six months on January 21, Governor Naik has started a new tradition. Either the President or the Centre should take notice whether it was a good or bad practice…”

“But it is certainly an indication of the SP government being weak and helpless because whenever there is a weak government, other institutions take pleasure in dominating it,” she added.

Mayawati said people suffer the consequences of such a situation and the same thing was happening in Uttar Pradesh. “The SP government has become very weak and helpless,” she alleged.

The former UP CM said: “People have seen the governments of Congress and BJP at the Centre and that of SP in UP, but they failed to uplift Dalits, OBCs and minorities.” Claiming BSP to be the only hope for the people of UP, Mayawati asked her party workers to work hard.

Attacking some leaders who had recently left the party, Mayawati said: “There are some elements who got infected by selfishness, nepotism and greed for position. They not only made their future dark but also hurt the ‘BSP Movement’.”

“Even though the ‘BSP movement’ gave them respect and helped them become MLAs, MPs and ministers, they betrayed the movement and joined Opposition parties, for which Bahujan Samaj will not forgive them,” she added.

Mayawati was addressing party workers from Bihar, Uttrakhand, Jharkahand, Karnataka, Maharastra, Tamil Nadu, Telengana, Kerala and West Bengal who gathered to review party’s strategy for 2017 Assembly polls.

On the occasion, she discussed in detail ways to strengthen her party ahead of the Assembly polls.

Mayawati will be hold regionwise review on Monday in the party office.
