Commissioner of Railway Safety (North-East Circle) Prabhat Kumar Bajpai Thursday began probe into the Monday’s Gorakhdham Express tragedy, which claimed 29 lives and left 93 injured.
The train, coming from Hisar in Haryana, was derailed apparently due to a “track fracture” as per preliminary reports, and rammed into a freight train at Chureb railway station in Sant Kabir Nagar district.
Bajpai, who was in Lucknow Thursday, will, in the two days, record statements of the TTE, station and train staff, as well as the villagers who were among the first to reach the spot shortly after the accident.
Railways have also appealed to the locals at Chureb to record their statements. Sources said Bajpai is expected to submit the report to the CCRS within ten days’ time.
Meanwhile, the BJP has constituted a three-member committee, to be led by Domariyaganj MP Jagdambika Pal and MPs Sharad Tripathi (Sant Kabir Nagar) and Harish Dwivedi (Basti) as its members, to look into the matter.
“We have visited the sites and as (MoS for Railways) Manoj Sinha and (Union MSME minster) Kalraj Mishra said upon their visit on Tuesday, we will probe for any human error, conspiracy, or a fault in the track,” Pal said.
