Girl’s ‘burnt’ body cremated quietly,police suspect honour killing

A girl died of burn injuries under mysterious circumstance in a village under Soraon police station area on Friday. Her body was quietly cremated in the night. Police are probing the case from the angle of honour killing. A case of abetment to suicide and destruction of evidence has been registered.

Following media reports,the police registered the case on Sunday on the basis of a complaint lodged by the village chowkidar.

It was alleged that the girl,Sudha,aged around 15,daughter of Ramchandra Maurya,a resident of Gohri village,died of burn injuries late on Friday night. Her body was cremated that night itself.

Sudha was reportedly in love with a boy from the village. Her father,a truck driver,had warned her against it. When she did not stop meeting the boy,the family forced her to remain in the house. However,on Friday,the girl and boy attempted to flee but were caught,it was alleged. Subsequently,the girl died of burn injuries and was cremated at Shringverpur crematorium,nearly 30 km from the village.

“A case under Sections 306 (abetment to suicide) and 201 (destruction of evidence) of the IPC has been registered in this connection. Since the body of the girl has been cremated,we don’t have a post-mortem report. We are depending on questioning of the suspects and further investigations to arrive at any conclusion in this regard. There are more than one theories going around in the village. The probe is on,” said Circle Officer (Soraon),Bajrang Bali Chaurasia.
