Girl raped on way back from collecting free laptop

A case has been registered at Shukla Bazaar police station in Amethi district on the girl’s complaint.

A 19-year-old girl was Sunday night allegedly raped by the driver of a car,which she had hired to go to Faizabad from her native village in Amethi,to collect a free laptop being distributed by the government there.

The incident occurred late Sunday night when the girl was returning home along with her friends after visiting her college in Rasoolpur area of Faizabad.

A case has been registered at Shukla Bazaar police station in Amethi district on the girl’s complaint Monday.

Police have arrested the accused Sunil Kumar Singh. Amethi SP Hira Lal said the accused has been sent to jail and the medical tests of the girl are being conducted. Singh is also the owner of the vehicle.

Circle Officer,Musafirkhana,Vipul Kumar said the girl alleged that Singh,after dropping other girls who had also returned from Faizabad,raped her in the car after parking it at an isolated place near her village. Both victim and accused belong to the same village.

Station Officer,Shukla Bazaar,Rama Kant said the girls had hired the car to go to Faizabad to take part in the function where laptops were to be distributed by the government.

He added the car driver dropped all other girls at their houses except the victim.

The laptops were handed over to the students by social welfare minister Awadhesh Prasad. The programme reportedly ended late because of the delay in arrival of the minister at the venue. Prasad could not be reached for comments.

Asked about the security for girls coming to take part in the free laptop distribution functions,Faizabad district magistrate Vipin Kumar Dwivedi said the girls are usually asked to come with their guardians.
