Gangster Act Case: Vikas Dubey’s aides among 23 sentenced to 10-year in jail, 7 acquitted

A court in Kanpur Dehat on Tuesday convicted 23 of the 30 aides of slain gangster Vikas Dubey in a Gangsters Act case that was lodged in the aftermath of the 2020 Bikru killings. They have been sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment.

On the night of June 3, 2020, a police team came under heavy gunfire when they had gone to arrest gangster Vikas Dubey, leading to the death of eight policemen, including DSP Devendra Mishra.

Tuesday’s conviction was in a case under the Gangsters Act, while the trial in connection with the Bikru incident is still going on.

District Government Counsel (Criminal) Raju Porwal said the case under the Gangsters Act was lodged based on the Bikru incident and other criminal history of these accused. “The charges were framed on October 28, 2021. In 22 months, the verdict was announced. Twenty-three out of the 30 accused were convicted and sentenced to 10 years in prison along with a fine Rs 50,000 each. Seven accused were acquitted by the court,” he said.
