A sub-inspector (S-I) and a village chowkidar allegedly raped a woman in a room on the Khadda police station premises in Kushinagar district.
The incident took place on July 17,but the case of rape was registered on Monday as the policemen did not act on the complaint submitted by the woman. The accused are yet to be arrested.
Gorakhpur Zone IG Bhawesh Kumar Singh said that five policemen,including the then Station Officer (SO) and the rape accused,have been suspended and police teams are conducting raids to arrest the S-I and the chowkidar.
He said the police have recovered a towel from the room where the woman allegedly was raped and sent it for laboratory test. The room was allotted to accused S-I Virendra Kumar,who is on leave since July 20. The S-I and chowkidar Vijay Verma are untraceable,the IG added.
Singh said the chowkidar of Genhai village,Vijay Verma,allegedly lured the woman by promising to get her appointed as chowkidar of her village. He took the woman to the police station around 10 am on July 17. She was then taken to S-I Kumars room on the campus.
The IG said the S-I and chowkidar raped the woman after threatening her. Later,she was allowed to go around 8 pm.
