The Firozabad Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) on Sunday ordered an investigation into allegations that a 25-year-old youth was pushed off the roof after being beaten up by four policemen in the neighbouring Etah district a day before.
The family of the victim, Dileep, alleged that the policemen were drunk when they to their house on Saturday morning. The Firozabad police, however, maintained that it was Dileep who ran and fell off the roof after seeing the cops who had gone to investigate an incident involving a fight between two groups, including his younger brother Suraj (19).
The youth is stated to be in a stable condition. Sirsaganj (Firozabad) Circle Officer Praveen Kumar Tiwari said, “On Friday, a fight broke out between two groups under the Eka police station in Firozabad. One Pappe lodged a complaint at the local police post. To investigate the matter, a police team went to the accused Suraj’s house, and after seeing the police his brother Dileep started running and fell. He sustained a minor injury. He has been discharged after treatment. The SSP has ordered a probe that will be conducted by the Jasrana Circle Officer. Further action in the matter will be taken accordingly.”
The Circle Officer refused to divulge the names of the four policemen accused of assault. Suraj said, “Four to five persons beat me up near a canal. My brother Dileep had gone to hold talks for a compromise. But they refused and paid money to four policemen. They came to our house in an inebriated condition with the ones who attacked me. The policemen beat up my brother and he ran to the terrace to save himself. They pushed him from the roof and he got a serious injury in his leg. The policemen also misbehaved with the women in the house.”
