A former gram pradhan and BSP member,Ram Naresh Katiyar, his son Sonu and one Arvind Yadav have been booked for murder at Vikas Nagar Kasba in Kanpur Dehat. All three are absconding.
On Sunday morning,Sonu allegedly fired five bullets at Vinod Katiyar (52) and his wife Manju (50) from his licensed revolver over a minor dispute. Vinod died on the spot. Manju has been rushed to Kanpurs Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital.
Following a complaint made by Vinods brother-in-law Suresh Babu Katiyar, the Sikandra police has registered a case. Manju said: Ram Naresh has a strong hold in the area and he and his family try to dominate the residents. On Saturday night,Sonu and Katiyar,a local, caught her sons Devesh and Vivek and demanded money from them. On being refused,Arvind and Sonu thrashed my sons, she said. Around 5 am on Sunday,Vinod and Manju went to the home of Ram Naresh to complain about the incident. But instead of talking to us,Ram Naresh instructed his son to open fire at us, she said. Vinod was shot in the chest and died on the spot. Manju sustained two bullet injuries.
Kanpur Dehat SP Govind Agarwal said three police teams have been formed to look for the absconders. Prima facie it appears that the incident was an outcome of a dispute between Sonu and the sons of Vinod Katiyar, he said. Sonu and Devesh had an argument a few days ago. It seems that annoyed over the issue,Sonu thrashed Devesh and Vivek on Saturday, the officer added.
