Jai Prakash Rai, the father of Srishti Rai (21), a resident of Gorakhpur, has alleged that Srishti took the extreme step step after mental harassment by those named in the FIR lodged under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code.

The body of Srishti, who was in the fifth semester of B.Tech, was found hanging in a hostel room.

Rai alleged that since his daughter got admission to the hostel, Shipra Gupta and Suman used to harass her over various issues. Though he complained about it to the V-C and the department head, nothing was done, he further claimed. Shipra Gupta instead threatened the victim with expulsion from the hostel and failing her in examination, it was alleged.

Srishti’s elder sister Pooja spoke to her on August 18 last year and found her scared and under stress, the complainant said. On this, Pooja immediately called hostel matron Suman and asked her to send someone to stay with Srishti since she was not feeling well, he added.

Suman neither sent anyone to Srishti’s room nor did she go there herself that night, the police said. Srishti told Pooja that she was alone in her room as her roommate had gone to another room for studies.

When Pooja left for Jhansi the next morning, she called Srishti on her way but got no response, it was claimed. She then called Srishti’s friend Anshika and asked her to go to her room, Rai said, adding that Anshika found the door locked from inside. Anshika then informed Suman who along with others broke open the door.

Suman told Anshika that Srishti was unwell and was being taken to hospital. But when Pooja reached Jhansi, she was told that her sister had committed suicide, the complaint says.
