A gang of burglars broke into a garment shop and murdered a trader and his son in the Sarojini Nagar area of Lucknow on Tuesday. The miscreants decamped with Rs 15,000 in cash.
The deceased have been identified as Nand Ram (55) and Dharmendra (25). The father-son duo had started to stay back in the shop during night,as over seven shops in the same market had been burgled during the last month.
The station officer,a sub-inspector and a constable of the area were suspended after the incident. Chief Minister Mayawati also took cognisance of the killings and issued directives to DGP Vikram Singh to look into the matter. Only two days ago,the local traders had handed over a memorandum to Lucknow SSP Akhil Kumar complaining about the laidback attitude of the Sarojini Nagar police to control such burglaries.
The president of the Sarojini Nagar Vyapar Mandal – Swayamvar Singh, said: There was no police patrolling in the market. All shopkeepers had started staying at their shops during the night.
