Weeks before elections for the Kanpur Lok Sabha seat,the district police have arrested three persons for allegedly making fake electoral photo identity cards (EPIC),APL and BPL cards,Nagar Nigam certificates,health certificates and rubber stamps.
The Kalyanpur police arrested Kamal Singh,his son Amit and neighbour Dheerendra Singh from Awas Vikas Colony on Tuesday. Dozens of fake EPICs,over 100 APL and BPL cards,health certificates and over 200 rubber stamps were recovered from the spot. The computer and printer used for manufacturing these were also seized.
Kanpur DIG Hari Ram Sharma said,The arrested persons have told us about the involvement of six Sadar Tehsil employees who had supported them in preparing the fake I-cards,certificates and rubber stamps. He did not rule out the possibility that fake documents might be misused during the elections.
Following a tip-off,the Kalyanpur police team raided the 4703-EWS Awas Vikas Colony-3 residence of Kamal Singh in the afternoon. I work as a clerk for Advocate Nand Lal. The Sadar Tehsil employees provided us with vital information related to preparing the fake documents, Singh told mediapersons.
Kalyanpur police Inspector Som Dutt Sharma said: The arrested persons possessed the rubber stamp of virtually every important personality of the city.
