Expelled AMU student union president joins SP

Expelled student leader and former president of Aligarh Muslim University Students’ Union (AMUSU) Shahzad Alam Burney joined the Samajwadi Party on Saturday.

Expelled student leader and former president of Aligarh Muslim University Students’ Union (AMUSU) Shahzad Alam Burney joined the Samajwadi Party on Saturday.

Burney was formally welcomed in the party by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and SP president Mulayam Singh Yadav during a function to commemorate the 47th death anniversary of Ram Manohar Lohia,at Lohia Park on Saturday.

Alam was AMUSU president in 2012-13 and was suspended by AMU administration on April 6 for “creating nuisance” during a function attended by the Union Minister of State for HRD Jitin Prasada.

The university had also sealed Shahzad’s room in Aftab Hall.

Later,the disciplinary committee found charges against Burney to be correct and he was expelled by the AMU administration on May 21 and debarred from seeking admission in AMU for the next five academic sessions from 2013-14 onwards.

Mulayam asked Burney to deliver a speech during the function .

Burney praised Mulayam and cited him as his ideal. He said the party’s membership will be a stepping stone in politics for him.

SP has several former office-bearers of AMUSU in its fold,including minister Azam Khan,Khalid Masood,Mohd Usman Khan and youth leader Nafees Ahmed.
