Election Commission has announced the bye-elections schedule on two Rajya Sabha seats from Uttar Pradesh that fell vacant after disqualification of Congress MP Rasheed Masood and death of SP MP Mohan Singh.
As per the schedule,the notification will be issued on December 3 with December 10 set as the last date for filing nominations. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be done a day after with December 13 being the last date for withdrawal of candidature. Polling has been scheduled for December 20,which is also the day when votes will be counted. By December 23,election will be complete.
The election comes after Masood,whose term was to end on April 2,2018,was disqualified from Rajya Sabha on September 19 after being convicted in a case
of corruption and other offenses. The SP MPs term was till July 4,2016 but
passed away on September 22.
