DNA test confirms body found in Chhattisgarh not of CRPF man

The DNA report of the headless body that was found in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar area on August 15 has confirmed that the victim was not CRPF man Kanhaiya Yadav.

The DNA report of the headless body that was found in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar area on August 15 has confirmed that the victim was not CRPF man Kanhaiya Yadav, whose identity card and driving license were found from there, but of Allahabad youth Umesh Yadav whom Kanhaiya had lured away, promising him a job in the CRPF.

“With the DNA report,it has been established that Kanhaiya had faked his death to claim insurance and death benefits. He had taken Umesh to Bastar and killed him. The police have begun the process to declare Kanhaiya an absconder,” said an official of Chhattisgarh police.

The Bastar police handed over the body to Umesh’s family on Friday.

“We performed the cremation in Bastar. For the last two months,we had been living in suspense. The family was divided over identity of the body as it was unrecognisable,” said Umesh’s cousin Ram Pujan Yadav.

Sources said Bastar police are now investigating the role of Kanhaiya Yadav’s family members and may visit Ghazipur soon. The police have come to know that a week before leaving for Bastar,Kanhaiya had withdrawn Rs 2.98 lakh from his bank account in Ghazipur.

“We are looking for the person to whom he handed over the money. That person,it seems, knew the plan,” said a police officer.

Kanhaiya Yadav,a constable-cum-driver with 204 Cobra Battalion in Bastar, left Ghazipur on August 13 by Sarnath Express for joining duty after spending leave with his family, but never reached the unit.

On August 15,the Bastar police found a headless body at an isolated place. Since the body had Kanhaiya’s driving licence and identity card on it,the police handed over the body to the CRPF.

On investigation,it was found that the fingerprints and other features of the body did not match Kanhaiya’s record with the CRPF. His family, which had gone to Bastar to collect the body, was asked to wait.

In the meantime, the Bastar police came to know that one Umesh Yadav of Allahabad’s Manda locality, who had also taken Sarnath Express on August 13 for Bastar, had gone missing.

They were informed that Umesh had left for Bastar along with a CRPF constable ‘Krishna Yadav’.

Umesh’s younger brother Amreesh Yadav informed them that ‘Krishna Yadav’,whom Umesh had met in Varanasi a few days before, had promised to get him a job in the CRPF.

Amreesh called up “Krishna Yadav’ but found his phone switched off. The Bastar police found that

‘Krishna Yadav’ had used that cellphone to call Kanhaiya’s cousin Kapil Yadav. It turned out that ‘Krishna Yadav’ was none other than Kanhaiya Yadav.

On August 26,the police arrested Kapil Yadav. During questioning,Kapil told the police that Kanhaiya had

spoken to him about a plan to kill another person, make it look like his own death, and then disappear so that his family could claim insurance money and death benefits from CRPF.

Ten days before leaving for his unit,Kanhaiya Yadav had actually bought a Rs 25-lakh life insurance policy.

Since the police did not have any recent photograph of Kanhaiya Yadav,Umesh’s family could not confirm that he was ‘Krishna Yadav’.

The police then sent blood samples of Umesh’s father Bhola Nath, mother Shiv Devi and younger brother Amreesh Yadav to a Hyderabad lab, along with blood samples of Kanhaiya Yadav’s family in Ghazipur.
