UP Legislative Council chairman Ganesh Shankar Pandey Tuesday asked the state government to get a time-bound inquiry done by a DIG rank officer into the case of alleged rape of an 18-year-old girl by a provincial police service (PPS) officer.

The accused,Vipul Kumar Srivastava, was posted as a deputy SP in Amethi district till December 2 when an FIR was lodged against him under IPC 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) on a complaint of the girl. Srivastava was later transferred from Amethi and was posted as deputy SP in Crime Branch-CID at Lucknow.

Legislative Council Chairman gave the directive while rejecting an adjournment notice given by BSP members on that particular incident and on the situation of law and order in the state.

Leader of Opposition Naseemuddin Siddiqui demanded the state government to assure the House that the accused would be arrested within 24-hour.

Leader of the House Ahmed Hasan said that FIR has been registered against the officer and he has been transferred. Hasan also said,“An additional SP rank officer was doing inquiry in the case, but I feel that a DIG rank officer should probe the case.”

The case is related to a class 12 pass girl, who was assured of a job by the officer. The latter allegedly took her to Lucknow to join the job last month and allegedly raped her in a hotel.
