A ticket aspirant depressed over failing to get Samajwadi Party nomination shot dead his eldest brother before shooting himself in neighbouring district of Pratapgarh on Sunday. He was admitted to a hospital in Allahabad,where his condition was reported to be out of danger.

A ticket aspirant depressed over failing to get Samajwadi Party nomination shot dead his eldest brother before shooting himself in neighbouring district of Pratapgarh on Sunday. He was admitted to a hospital in Allahabad,where his condition was reported to be out of danger.

According to Pratapgarh police,the incident occurred in a rented house located in Devkali Mohalla under City (Kotwali) police station around 7 am on Sunday. “Prakash Mohan Ojha alias Tikku,who in his 40s,whipped out his 0.12-bore licenced gun and shot at his elder brother,Chandra Mohan,” said Station Officer (Kotwali),Amar Singh.

Hearing the gunshot,Anand Mohan,another brother of Prakash Mohan rushed towards Chandra Mohan. Just when Anand entered,Prakash shot himself in the stomach. While Chandra Mohan died on the spot,Prakash was rushed to city hospital from where he was referred to Jeevan Jyoti Hospital in Allahabad. Prakash was reported to be out of danger but was not yet conscious. “We are waiting for him to become fit for giving statement following which we will be able to ascertain the exact sequence of events,” said Singh.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Prakash Mohan was passing through a phase of depression for the past few months after he had failed to get a ticket from SP. Circle Officer (Kotwali) Amarjeet Singh Shahi said,“Prakash had sought ticket from Raniganj Assembly constituency in Pratapgarh. He slipped into depression when the ticket went to somebody else.” Prakash was not seen as a strong contender for the ticket and was also not an office-bearer of the party,Shahi said.
