A day after a first-year MBA student at Lucknow University alleged harassment by her roommate, the authorities constituted a dedicated six member anti-harassment cell for girl students on Thursday.
LU spokesperson Prof N K Pandey said the senior-most additional proctor (women) will be the default chairperson of the committee. The cell will look into cases of harassment, ragging,or similar cases involving the girl students, Pandey said.
On Wednesday,an MBA student in Management Girls Hostel alleged harassment by her roommate, also a first-year MBA student, and her friends.
The girl complained to the Provost of sexual harassment but didnt elaborate, LU proctor Prof Manoj Dixit said.
Hostel Provost Amita Kanaujia said when asked, the girl said she was verbally abused and forcefully hugged and kissed by her roommate, and that it had been going on for a few days. Her complaint focussed on receiving taunts on her dressing, hair style and so on, the Provost said.
A four-member committee, constituted Wednesday, concluded that there has been no sexual harassment. However,it stated that mental harassment is evident, the proctor said, adding since it is a sensitive matter, the newly constituted cell will carry another in-depth investigation.
Talking to The Indian Express over phone from Patna, the girls father seconded the Provosts statement. She (our daughter) told us that her roommates forced her to take a haircut and used to trouble her a lot. She did not complain of harassment but sounded fearful and disturbed, he said.
The girls local guardian, too, said she had told them about harassment by her roommate. Both the girls parents have been called at LU on Monday.
