The Allahabad police are reportedly looking for criminals,who escaped from the prison van of Naini Central Jail on April 8,in connection with the murder of Station Officer of Bara Police Station Rajendra Prasad Dwivedi.
Dwivedi was shot by criminals who were going in a looted car on June 14 under Shankergarh area of the district.
Police sources said there are indications that members of the Atul Pandey gang may be involved in the incident.
“The involvement of several criminal gangs,including that of Atul Pandey,is being looked into,” said a senior police official.
Pandey,along with nine other undertrials,had escaped from the prison van when they were being ferried from Naini Central Jail to the district court. The undertrials had managed to escape near Balsons Chauraha under George Town police station area. Apart from Pandey,another suspect in the case include Jaiprakash alias Attha.
It may be recalled that two among the undertrials who had escaped on April 8 were arrested the next day. Another notorious criminal,who had allegedly masterminded the escape,Rizwan alias Motu Mali,surrendered before Kaushambi court on April 16 in another case.
The remaining undertrials,including Pandey and Jaiprakash,remain absconding. Pandey is also said to have connection with the Mumbai underworld and is wanted in several cases.
Deputy Inspector General (Allahabad),Dr N Ravinder,meanwhile,said the police would also inquire into the likelihood of the SO’s pistol not working at the time of the incident. “A detailed check of the arms of the other police officers would also be carried out,” he said.
Dwivedi had apparently tried to open fire at the assailants on the fateful day,but the attempt failed.
