Three days after Chief Minister and BSP president Mayawati suspended Yogesh Verma,MLA from Hastinapur, from the party on disciplinary grounds, the police has launched a massive hunt for him and his younger brother Rajan Verma in a case of attempt to murder.
The case against Verma, his brother and four unidentified men was lodged at the Sadar Bazaar police station in Meerut on Saturday, the day he was suspended. Nikunj Bansal, the complainant, alleged that the accused forced their way into his house on Friday night and threatened and beat him,and his brothers Amit Bansal and Rajiv Bansal.
They wanted me to withdraw a criminal case which was lodged against the MLA and seven others in January last year, after a court order on my application. They were accused of killing my mother and taking away money and jewellery kept in the house, said Bansal.
The investigating officer,Senior Sub-Inspector Raees-ul-Haq Khan, said they had conducted raids at the house of the MLA and his relatives. Meerut Circle Officer Vikas Chandra Tripathi said they are looking for Rajan as he was directly involved in the crime. We are also looking into the role of the MLA, Tripathi said.
