Constable arrested for ‘rape’

A police constable was arrested on Saturday for allegedly raping a girl at his residence in Pratapgarh reserve police lines on Friday night.

A police constable was arrested on Saturday for allegedly raping a girl at his residence in Pratapgarh reserve police lines on Friday night. An FIR was lodged against constable Veer Singh for rape on Saturday morning on the complaint of the 20-year-old girl,a resident of Raniganj,after which he was arrested. Pratapgarh Kotwali Station House Officer Yogendra Nath Singh said Veer,in his 50s,is currently posted at the reserve police lines.

The SHO said that the girl had come to Pratapgarh from Raniganj with her parents to get herself treated after she had suffered some injuries. However,her parents left her in the city and went back after an argument with her. The SHO said the medical examination of the girl has been conducted and they are waiting for the report.

The SHO said the girl has alleged that she was stopped by Veer,who was on duty at the entrance of reserve police lines,on Friday at 10 pm,when she was going towards Mahila police station for help. The girl further alleged that the accused took her to his room and raped her there,the SHO said.
