Congress allots districts to ‘monitor’ ministers

The Congress on Friday allotted 12 districts to each of its six Union ministers from Uttar Pradesh to tour, monitor UPA flagship schemes and listen to the problems of workers.

The Congress on Friday allotted 12 districts to each of its six Union ministers from Uttar Pradesh to tour, monitor UPA flagship schemes and listen to the problems of workers.

Three “VVIP districts” — Amethi represented by Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi,Rae Bareli represented by Congress president Sonia Gandhi and neighbouring Sultanpur — have been excluded from the list. There is a separate system of monitoring schemes and solving worker issues in Amethi and Rae Bareli, which is directly managed by the offices of Rahul and Sonia.

As part of the new experiment, the parliamentary constituency of one minister has been allotted to another for monitoring and touring.

Earlier this week,Rahul had called separate meetings of these ministers and told them to tour the state extensively. He had also told them that soon they would be allotted districts and be held responsible for solving problems of workers from there through at least two such visits each month. Complaints had come during the statewide tour of AICC general secretary Madhusudan Mistry that the ministers were ‘unapproachable’.
