For the Lucknow West by-election,the Congress party has almost finalised the name of Shyam Kishore Shukla as its nominee, party sources said.
Of over 60 applications, which the state Congress unit had received, the party zeroed on Shukla, the city party president, and has sent his name to the high command for final approval.
Shukla is the frontrunner. After discussion, his name has been floated but the final decision has to be made by the party high command, said a senior party leader.
Earlier, the party was even considering state Congress president Rita Bahuguna Joshi to contest from the seat, which was vacated by BJPs Lalji Tandon after he won the Lucknow Lok Sabha seat.
The Congress is,however, yet to announce its candidates for Jhansi and Lalitpur constituencies, which too will go for bypolls. But sources said that for Jhansi, the party has almost finalised the name of a corporator from the region.
It is to be noted that the chief of state unit of NSUI,Rahul Roy,had also applied for it.
