CM announces Rs 2 lakh for stampede victims

Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each to those families of the deceased who hailed from Uttar Pradesh.

Expressing grief over the victims of stampede at Ratangarh Mata temple in Datia,Madhya Pradesh,Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each to those families of the deceased who hailed from Uttar Pradesh. This comes after his party had on Sunday blamed the MP government for the tragedy,saying innocent lives could have been saved by making proper security arrangements as the huge rush of devotees was expected. Jalaun district administration has ruled itself as the worst hit,with nearly 50 deaths reported in the stampede. Local officials claimed that 42 deceased have been identified so far while the toll may rise after fresh identification.

Body of 11-year-old found,cops suspect rape

The body of an 11-year-old girl,who went missing,was found from the fields here with her hands and feet tied up with a rope at Khari Sarai village,police said Monday. The girl was abducted Sunday evening when she had gone to collect grass from the fields. It is suspected that she was first raped and then strangulated to death by unidentified men,police said. A case has been registered against unidentified miscreants,police said,adding that security has been tightened in the village as a precautionary measure. Police is awaiting the post-mortem report.

Ganga canal closure to hit water supply

Water supply to Delhi,Noida and Agra will be affected due to the closure of the Ganga canal for maintenance work,official sources said here Monday. The canal has been closed from October 14 to November 3 for maintenance work,said the Sub Divisional Officer of UP Irrigation Department V S Yadav. According to Yadav,the closure would hit water supply to 19 districts,including Muzaffarnagar,Meerut,Ghaziabad,Aligarh,Hathras,and Firozabad.

Amrit Abhijat is new UP IAS association secretary

Uttar Pradesh IAS association on Tuesday nominated 1995-batch IAS officer Amrit Abhijat as the group’s new secretary. “Amrit Abhijat has been selected as the new secretary through consensus in an executive committee meeting today,” association president Alok Ranjan said. Abhijat is currently the secretary in the state Home department. The post had become vacant last month.
