Union Ministry of Communications and Department of Posts is likely to issue a commemorative postal stamp on King Vikramaditya who is credited with establishing the Samvat calender followed by Hindus.
The ministry took up the matter following request of Nav Varsh Chetna Samiti, a Lucknow-based outfit backed by Lucknow Vibhag Pracharak of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Amar Nath.
UP Governor Ram Naik, too, sent a letter this month to the ministry and also talked to minister Ravi Shankar Prasad for speedy work in issuing the stamp through ministry’s Philatelic Advisory Committee (PAC).

“I have personally talked to minister Ravi Shankar Prasad also because the work on the issue has not been done as per the desired pace. Issuance of a postal stamp is a lengthy process,” Naik told The Indian Express.
Nav Varsh Chetna Samiti president Dr Girish Gupta said Union Home Minister and Lucknow MP Rajnath Singh, too, has written to Prasad for issuing the postal stamp.
“Recommendation letters of Governor and Home Minister will add lot of weight to the proposal in meeting of PAC,” Gupta said, adding the postal stamp will be a dedication for emperor Vikramaditya who invented the Hindu calender.
As per Gupta, the PAC has considered the proposal under ‘personality’ category. Following a demand from the ministry, the Samiti recently sent a detailed profile of the king, his contribution to the society and importance of Hindu calender.
RSS Vibhag Pracharak Amar Nath said the Nav Varsh Chetna Samiti has been formed to create awareness among the young generation about the Hindu calender and its authenticity as well as its connection with Indian culture.
Amar Nath said that the Governor will also attend te Hindu new year celebration programme that the committee is organising in Lucknow on March 21. BJP MP Manoj Tiwari will also perform during the cultural evening to be held as a part of the event.
Arunima Sinha, the first female amputee who climbed Mount Everest, will be felicitated in the event.
