The CBI is looking for a note which former Deputy CMO Dr YS Sachan,who died in Lucknow jail under suspicious circumstances on June 22 last year,is believed to have written in his legal defence.
It is different from the so-called suicide note purportedly written by Dr Sachan,a photocopy of which is available with the CBI. The CBI has gathered that Dr Sachan’s wife met him in jail on June 20 and he told her that he had been made a scapegoat in the case of murder of CMOs V K Arya and B K Singh. He asked her to hire a leading criminal lawyer for his defence. Later,he wrote a detailed note on the two murders in a diary which he wanted to hand over to the lawyer,the CBI has learnt. However,the note went missing after his death.
Sources said that the note was handed over by jail officials to some top officials in UP Police. The CBI had interrogated the then Inspector General,Prisons,VK Gupta,after Lucknow district jail staff told CBI officials that the note recovered from Dr Sachan’s belongings had been handed over to Gupta. The CBI had searched Gupta’s office after he denied having any such note,but the agency failed to trace it. The agency believes that the photocopy of so-called suicide note,which it has got,was planted to mislead the investigation.
Sources said that the note was destroyed by the officials as it contained details about the conspiracy of the murder of the two CMOs and the names of those who,according to Dr Sachan,were involved in them.
The CBI has found that Dr Sachan was upset since June 17,the day Special Task Force worked out the murder case of Dr B P Singh and arrested shooters Anand Prakash Tiwari and Vinod Sharma and a conspirator R K Verma. The STF investigation had said that Dr Sachan was the key conspirator behind the murder and had alleged that he took help of his friend RK Verma to hire the shooters for the killing. Then Cabinet Secretary Shashank Shekhar Singh had spoken to the media about the arrest and had also declared that Dr Sachan was also the main conspirator behind Dr Arya murder.
