The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has failed to connect former UP minister Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya with the murder of DSP Ziaul Haque that took place in Kunda on March 2. After more than a month of investigation into the triple murders, including that of Balipur village pradhan Nanhey Yadav and his brother Suresh, the central probe agency has not find any evidence of “direct or indirect” involvement of the Kunda MLA with Haque’s murder.

Raja Bhaiya was named in the FIR related to DSP’s murder as a conspirator by Parveen Azad, the widow of the slain officer. He then had to resign as food and supply minister. Later, another complaint was lodged by pradhan’s brother Pawan to the CBI alleging Raja Bhaiya’s involvement in the pradhan’s murder.

Sources said the CBI stopped investigating Raja Bhaiya in Haque’s murder after they arrested slain pradhan Nanhey Yadav’s son,who is stated to be a minor, his brothers Phoolchand and Pawan, and an associate Manjit Yadav last week.

However, the agency is still investigating Raja Bhaiya’s role in the conspiracy behind pradhan’s murder. The MLA’s drivers — Sanjay Pratap Singh alias Guddu Singh and Rohit Singh — aides Nanhey Singh,Rama Saroj,Kunda zila panchayat chairman Gulshan Yadav and his local representative Hariom Shanker Srivastava are also being probed in the case.

Gulshan Yadav,Hariom,Rohit Singh and Guddu Singh have been also named in the murder case of the DSP by his wife.

Sources said the CBI has so far questioned and recorded statements of over 170 people that included residents of Balipur,Purnemau,Benti and Kunda villages. Raja Bhaiya’s aides and some of his political opponents have been also questioned.

The call detail records of about 45 people, including Raja Bhaiya, his aides and family members, relatives and close associates of pradhan and some suspects in the triple murders have also been scanned.

But the CBI has not found any clue indicating Raja Bhaiya’s direct involvement in the conspiracy behind pradhan’s murder. There is only an allegation that Raja Bhaiya had threatened the pradhan’s brother Pawan by making a call on the phone of Vinod Saroj,an Independent MLA from Babaganj constituency, when the latter visited the pradhan’s family.

Vinod Saroj told the CBI that Raja Bhaiya had called him and asked him to let Pawan talk to him. Pawan had alleged that Raja Bhaiya threatened him not to speak against him or his aides in connection with the pradhan’s murder.

The pradhan’s brother Pawan had alleged in his complaint to the CBI that Raja Bhaiya’s aides had been harassing pradhan and other family members since 2003 at the instance of the former minister. But,he failed to produce any evidence backing his allegations, sources said.
