The humble cup of tea and the background of its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, who used to be a tea seller before taking the political plunge, have now become a powerful ammunition the BJP is relying on to disseminate information about the Gujarat model of development and the saffron partys vision for future.
Inspired by the Boston Tea Party, which became vital cog in bringing about the American Revolution, some fans of Gujarat CM,with support from BJP,have planned to host tea parties in 200 cities across country before the Lok Sabha elections to strengthen the Modi wave.
At the tea parties interactions are held with intellectuals and influential people of different sections of the society. Academicians,IIT,management and medical students, legal luminaries and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh workers are also attending these tea parties, five of which have already been organised in UPs Lucknow,Kanpur,Allahabad,Varanasi and Jhansi districts. More are proposed in Gorakhpur,Mathura,Agra,Delhi,Bangalore and Pune this month. .
Ahmedabad-based Chartered Accountant Shailesh Tiwari, who hails from UPs Faizabad district,is leading the campaign under the banner of NaMo Tea Party,an organisation he set up along with other non-political professionals.
Tiwari, who denied any connection with BJP,but admitted that he has met Modi several times and has been intimating him about the tea party campaign, said they tell people about achievements of Modi in the fields of good governance and development.
Modiji appreciated the initiative, Tiwari said, adding BJP leaders were welcomed in the tea parties as they can communicate the message to the public in better way.
The corganisation has prepared a database of people active on social media who are invited to the tea parties. Tiwari said,he hit upon the idea of holding such tea parties after he read a survey report claiming that a major population in 161 Lok Sabha constituencies across the country was frequent user of social media and their votes could be game changer in next elections.
A tea party held in Kanpur this Monday saw presence of BJP state spokesperson Manoj Mishra and Vinay Tiwari who heads BJPs state IT cell. Anil Tiwari, who is convener of BJPs IT cell for Awadh region, was in-charge of that tea party.
Such tea parties will be organised in all 13 major cities of UP, Manoj Mishra said, adding students and teachers of IIT-Kanpur and local industrialists had attended the meeting. He said that more such meetings at ward level will also be organised in Kanpur in coming days.
He said the Boston Tea Party had brought about a major change in the politics of America and the NaMo tea parties will also bring about a change in the minds of people in favour of BJP.
Sources said BJP is also collecting public feedback about the party and the local probable candidates for the Lok Sabha elections at such parties.
