BSP chief Mayawati on Sunday extended her support to Jats from Haryana demanding reservation. In a statement, she also condemned the “police atrocities and excesses” on the protesters. Mayawati said Jats are not ready to believe “the empty promises” of BJP and Congress. She demanded that the community gets reservation “immediately”, while urging agitators to campaign peacefully and in a planned manner so that they get more support for their demand.
“Neither Congress, nor BJP have done justice to the Jat community. The majority government of the BJP in Haryana is doing what the Congress had done earlier. This has forced the community to start the agitation,” she said. “The Jats’ demand for reservation in jobs and education as OBC is valid… they have continued their struggle for the fulfillment of their demand for a long time,” she added.
