Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) members on Monday stalled proceedings of the state Assembly during zero hour over the murder of a 27-year-old research scholar,Neha Sharma,in Agra on March 16. BSP legislators trooped into the well and raised slogans demanding arrest of the murderers.
The issue was raised through an adjournment notice by BSP legislator Dhrampal Singh of Agra during zero hour. Neha was a student of Dayalbagh Educational Institute which is a prestigious institute of the state. She was brutally murdered and her body bore multiple blade marks. The murderer even had left behind a sketch, he stated while speaking on the admissiblity of the adjournment notice.
Singh also said that the students who protested after the murder were lathicharged by the police. It is disgusting that the police has failed to arrest the culprits even after three days. Innocent students who were demanding justice were assaulted by the police, he added. Singh said the students have boycotted the examination and are still protesting.
Leader of Opposition Swami Prasad Maurya too stressed for arrest of the accused. Maurya also mentioned several other incidents of rape and murder in the state.
In his reply Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Azam Khan admitted that the whole government is ashamed of the incident. But the BSP members should also have some shame. We have to keep an eye on those former ministers who are in jail. Some of them are on their way to jail. We have to take notice of those who did politics of crime, Khan said in a reference to BSP ministers who are in jail.
BSP members termed it as irrelevant statement and demanded that the minister should assure the House about the arrest of the culprits. We are not present here for listening to your nonsense. We are raising a serious issue and you should concentrate on it only, Maurya stated. At this, temper rose and Khan targetted Maurya for such statements.
BSP legislators who were on their seats trooped in the well and raised slogans against the state government. When they refused to return,Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey adjourned the House for five minutes and later extended the adjournment by another 10 minutes. Maurya and Khan were called by the Speaker in his chamber to diffuse the tension. Later,Khan assured the House that the government is serious about the incident. There are some clues but we cannot divulge them in the house. The culprits will be nabbed very soon, he claimed.
The adjournment notice was later rejected by the Speaker.
