The Congress has accused the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) of having a tacit understanding with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The party argued the BSP has fielded such candidates that will divide minority votes and help the BJP win at least 10 constituencies.

“There is a clear understanding between the two parties and we have evidence of the same. People should be warned about the intentions of the BSP. It has no sympathy towards the minorities but are giving them tickets to ensure the victory of BJP candidates by dividing minority votes,” Akhilesh Pratap Singh, spokesperson of the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee said on Tuesday.

The allegation follows apprehensions expressed by some Congress leaders that a large section of minority vote might shift towards the BSP after its decision to give around 25 per cent seats to Muslims.

On Monday,AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh had made a similar allegation, making a specific mention of the BSP decision to field Mukhtar Ansari from Varan-asi where the BJP is fielding Murli Manohar Joshi. Singh listed 9 more constituencies on Tuesday.

“After delimitation,Gorak-hpur has got considerable population of Nishads. However, instead of its MLA Jamuna Nishad,BSP has given ticket to Vinay Shankar Tiwari to help MP Yogi Adityanath. In Bareilly, they have fielded Islam Sabir against BJP leader Santosh Gangwar to divide minority votes,” Singh said.

He added that in Ballia, where Neeraj Shekhar, son of late Chandra Shekhar is the SP candidate, the BSP has fielded Sangram Singh Yadav to divide Shekhar’s votes.

The other names mentioned by him were Tarannum Akeel from Pilibhit against BJP’s Varun Gandhi,Tabbasum Bagum from Kairana against BJP’s Hukkum Singh.

“BSP has fielded Shakeel Ahmad from Kanpur to divide the votes of Shri Prakash Jaiswal. It is also planning to field Yakoob Kuraishi in Gaziabad to ensure easy victory of Rajnath Singh,” he added.
