Lucknow: Samajwadi Party candidate Alok Tiwari was declared elected to Rajya Sabha at the end of the deadline for the withdrawal of nominations on Monday. Alok was the lone candidate who had filed papers for the Rajya Sabha seat which fell vacant after the death of his father Brijbhushan Tiwari on April 25.
CBI files chargesheet in Banda rape case
LUCKNOW: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI),which was investigating the alleged rape of a Banda girl in which former BSP MLA Purushotam Dwivedi is lodged in jail since January last year,filed two separate supplementary chargesheets in a local court of Banda on Monday. While one chargesheet was against Dwivedi for rape,the other was against Virendra Shukla alias Garg and Ram Naresh alias Rawan for causing hurt and assault or use of criminal force on a woman with intent to outrage her modesty. In December 2010,the girl had alleged that she was raped by Dwivedi,who was then MLA from Banda,at his house in Banda and later booked in a false case of theft and sent to jail. She also alleged that the MLAs supporters thrashed her before handing her over to the police.

UP Police lie vacant
Lucknow: The state government on Monday said 9,798 posts of sub-inspectors are lying vacant in the police department.
