ALLAHABAD: The Allahabad High Court on Monday rejected a petition filed by former Uttar Pradesh minister in BSP government Awadhpal Singh Yadav,his brother and his son. The petition sought stay on their arrest and quashing of the FIR,registered against them on October 5 in Etah district. The trio was accused of gang-raping a Dalit woman in the case.
Sub-inspector shot dead in Aligarh
Lucknow: Sub-Inspector Om Veer Singh was shot dead when unidentified miscreants attacked him at Pipari village in Aligarh on Monday. The S-I was shot on the right chest and died during treatment. Police said S-I Om Veer Singh and homeguard Nem Singh were going on a motorcycle when they were attacked. Miscreants shot S-I and hit homeguard with stick on his head. The doctors stated condition of homeguard stable. The police suspect involvement of local person in the crime but picture would be cleared after the investigation.
Shias,Sunnis against pro-Taliban people
LUCKNOW: Shia cleric Kalbe Jawwad and Sufi Sunni Muslims of All India Ulema and Mashaikh Board (AIUMB) have joined hands to form a new organisation World Waseela Front,demanding restrictions on people propagating Talibani ideology. The newly-formed outfit will also hold a two-day conference on October 17 and 18 at Shahnajaf Imambara. This is the first time that Shias and Sufi Sunnis will be sharing the stage.
UP Cong to launch fresh membership drive
LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh Congress would be launching a fresh membership drive across the state on October 16. It would be for the first time that the membership would be done for the period of five years as compared to previous three year term. Moreover,the term of the state president,which was three years earlier,would now also be five years. On Monday,Congress state president Nirmal Khatri said that there had been an amendment in the party constitution,whereby the term of the president and the membership both would be for five years.
