The BSP on Friday said it will put up candidates in all the 182 constituencies in Gujarat for the Assembly polls,to be held on December 13 and 17.

Ahmedabad: The BSP on Friday said it will put up candidates in all the 182 constituencies in Gujarat for the Assembly polls,to be held on December 13 and 17. “Mayawati has decided that the party will contest from all the seats in Gujarat on its own and will not have seat adjustments with any political party,” MLC Dharmaprakash Bhartiya told reporters here. The party also declared the first list of 50 candidates.

Security tightened ahead of Eid-ul-Zuha

Lucknow: Elaborate security arrangements have been made across the state to check any untoward incident during Eid-ul-Zuha festival on Saturday. “Adequate number of force has been provided to different zones in the state,” IG (Law and Order) B P Singh told reporters here.

Munna Singh Chauhan made state RLD chief

Lucknow: Former minister Munna Singh Chauhan was nominated UP unit president of Rashtriya Lok Dal on Friday by its chief and Union Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh. The post of UP RLD chief fell vacant after the resignation of Baba Hardev Singh. Chauhan was irrigation minister in the previous Mulayam Singh Yadav government from RLD quota.

Woman kills self,three minor daughters

Deoria: A 28-year-old woman allegedly immolated herself after setting ablaze her three minor daughters in Balsahiya village of the district. All four died on the spot,police said,adding that her family members have gone missing since the incident.

Industry associations protest power hike

Lucknow: For the first time,several industry associations in UP came together for a common cause and organised a dharna in Lucknow demanding rollback of the recent hike in power tariff. “With the latest 25-30 per cent hike,the power tariff in UP has become the highest in the country,” said UP Rajya Vidyut Upbhokta Parishad chairman Avadhesh Kumar Verma. He said it owuld make the state’s industries uncompetitive,both nationally and internationally.
