UP Information Commission issues notice to Lokayukta on RTI

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Information Commission has issued notice to the Lokayukta for not providing information under the Right to Information Act on the plea that it was not in the ambit of the Act. Chief Information Commissioner Ranjeet Singh Pankaj,in the notice,asked Lokayukta why its public information officer (PIO) should not be punished under Section 20 of the Act for not providing the information.

CIC’s notice came after RTI activist Saleem Beg had moved an application on May 10 last year seeking information regarding the list of people who had lodged complaints against officers and employees of various department between May 13,2007 to May 8,2012. The CIC has fixed August 6 as the next date of hearing.

Gorakhpur jeweller shot at

Gorakhpur: A jeweller was shot at by two motorbike-borne men in Padribazar area under Shahpur police station area,police said Friday. Devi Verma (24),the gold merchant and his brother Shubham,were on their way home after closing the shop located in Jungle Dhusan area when two bike riders shot at Verma and tried to snatch a bag. Shubham,who was riding pillion,snatched a pistol of the assailant and fired in the air,they said. Hearing the gun shots,people gathered at the spot but the miscreants managed to escape.

4 die after inhaling poisonous gas

Gautam Buddha Nagar: Four persons died Friday after inhaling poisonous gas in a well in Gautam Buddha Nagar here,police said.Chiku and Gulfam had entered the well at a factory and fainted due to the poisonous gas. When Santosh Mandol and Sadanand tried to save them,they too fell unconscious,they said. All the four were rushed to the hospital,where they were declared dead.

Two cops killed in road mishap

Meerut: Two policemen were killed when their motorcycle was hit by a SUV in Meerut district,police said Friday. Constables Rajbir Singh (45) and Jaiprakash Verma (59) were on patrolling duty Thursday night when they were hit by the SUV,they said. Both of them died on the spot. A case has been registered against the erring driver.

Two children drown in Bareilly

Bareilly: Two children drowned in a pond in Khutia village in Bahedi area,police said Friday. Pankaj (5) and his sister Priyanka (3) drowned when the fell into the pond while playing in the village on Thursday,they said.
