1 held for rape,murder in Kheri

Lucknow: A nine-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered by her neighbour in a village under Mohammadi police station of Lakhimpur Kheri district. Her body was found in a cane field on Wednesday.

Police have arrested the accused,Munna,and booked him for rape and murder. The police are also planning to invoke National Security Act (NSA) against him. Kheri SP Prashant Kumar said NSA would be invoked as the incident had instilled fear in the minds of children in the area.

HC notice to govt on constables’ pay plea

Allahabad: The Allahabad High Court has issued notices to the state government and senior officials of Uttar Pradesh Police on a petition filed by constables seeking a pay band equivalent to that of sub-inspectors as they have completed 16 years in service. A single-judge bench of Justice V K Shukla on Wednesday issued notices on the petition filed by constable Maharaj Singh and 20 others. The respondents have six weeks’ time to file their counter-affidavits.

Madrasa teachers on dharna for dues

Lucknow: A group of contractual madrasa teachers under the madarsa modernisation scheme of Government of India gheraoed the Congress office in Lucknow on Thursday and sat on dharna till late night demanding clearance of pending honorarium.They began the dharna outside the room of UPCC chief Nirmal Khatri. “The teachers are clearly motivated by someone. It is not the fault of the Centre. The state government had not submitted the utilisation certificates of previous years because of which the funds that were sanctioned had lapsed,” Congress spokesperson Amarnath Agarwal said.

John Hopkins invites Shivpal for lecture

Lucknow: After Harvard University’s invitation to CM Akhilesh Yadav,his uncle and senior cabinet minister Shivpal Yadav has been invited by another US varsity,John Hopkins University,to deliver a lecture on flood control,sources said.
