Beni regrets quota comment to EC

Beni Prasad Verma regretted his remarks during an election campaign regarding sub-quota for backward class minorities.

Union Steel Minister Beni Prasad Verma on Friday regretted his remarks during an election campaign regarding sub-quota for backward class minorities within the 27 per cent quota for OBCs. Verma had invited the wrath of the Election Commission,which had issued him a notice for violating the model code of conduct.

“I have clarified before the Election Commission that it was never the intention of Verma in any manner to hurt the Commission…That he holds the Commission in the highest respect… What he said,if it has hurt them,he regrets the same,” Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi told reporters after appearing before the EC on Friday on behalf of Verma.

Singhvi submitted a written reply of Verma regretting his remarks made during an election meeting on February 15 at Farrukhabad.
