Almost a year after the Assembly elections in the state,Congress leaders have become active all of a sudden in Uttar Pradesh. While some of them are concentrating on inauguration and launching programmes in Rae Bareli,the Lok Sabha constituency of party president Sonia Gandhi,others are raising issues of public interest in Lucknow and their respective constituencies.
Sources said that the flurry of activity comes after party vice-president Rahul Gandhi recently talked about inactivity of the leaders in UP. He is likely to hold a review meeting with senior party leaders later this week in Delhi.
However,for the sudden rise in activity in Rae Bareli,some even point to the rally of Varun Gandhi in adjoining Sultanpur district,which is sheduled on Thursday.
In Lucknow,the day began with Congress MP from Barabanki and Chairman of the National Commission for Schedule Castes P L Punia staging a sit-in outside the office of Madhyanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd,along with Congressmen and farmers from Lucknow and Barabanki. Punia locked the doors of the office for over two hours raising the issue of power crisis in Barabanki district.
The Centre had sent Rs 311 crore for electrification of villages in Barabanki district under the Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification Scheme,and Rs 24.97 crore for renovation of the existing power lines in the city areas. It has been over a year but no step has been taken by the state government to initiate the process, Punia said. Later in the day,Punia gave a memorandum to the Governor and said that if the state government fails to take appropriate steps in the next one month,then all officers of power corporation would be locked in the similar manner.
On Tuesday,Congress Legislature Party leader Pradeep Mathur had organised a public meeting at Kanshiram Shehari Garib Awas Yojana at Para in Lucknow to raise the issue of lack of basic amenities at the houses constructed under the scheme.
Three Union ministers along with the Chairman of National Disaster Management Authority were in Rae Bareli on Wednesday to launch different programmes and schemes of their departments. While Vayalar Ravi,Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs,inaugurated the Office of Protector of Emigrants in Rae Bareli,Union Minister of State for Micro,Small and Medium Scale Enterprises K H Muniyappa attended a buyer-seller meet organised by National Small Industries Corporation Ltd in collaboration with Rail Coach Factory,Rae Bareli.
N N Meena,Union Minister of State for Finance,inaugurated 11 branches of State Bank of India and 5 branches of UCO bank in Rae Bareli.
In Farrukhabad,External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid was on a two-day visit to his constituency. He took up social work projects under the banner of his Zakir Hussain Memorial Trust for skill development of youth and for assistance to self-help groups.
