The Bareilly police in Uttar Pradesh have booked a nursery owner and his son for allegedly flogging an eight-year-old boy with his hands and legs tied to a wooden pole. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon after the boy allegedly plucked flowers from the nursery.

The boy’s father filed a complaint at the local police station against the owner of the nursery. “I requested him not to beat my son, but he threatened that he would kill him because he plucked flowers from his nursery. The nursery owner’s son also joined him,” claimed the boy’s father. He requested assistance from the police, and only after they arrived was the boy freed, he claimed in his complaint.

A video of the purported incident surfaced on social media. “We have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the accused on the basis of the complaint by the boy’s father. A search is on for the father-son duo,” a senior police officer said on Thursday.

The FIR was lodged under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) section 115-2 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt to someone), 352 (intentionally insulting someone in a way that provokes them to break the peace), 351-3 (threatening someone with death), and 127-2 (wrongful confinement).

“An unusual punishment was allegedly meted out to the minor boy by the nursery owner for plucking a few flowers. He and his son will be arrested soon,” said Manush Pareek, Superintendent of Police (Bareilly city).
