Bareilly cleric Tauqeer Raza Khan, who has been appointed as vice-chairman,State Handloom Corporation with minister of state status, announced that he will refuse to accept the post if his demands were not met during the proposed meeting with Samajwadi Party (SP) president Mulayam Singh Yadav on June 20.
Raza has also served notice to Shahzil Islam, the lone MLA of his political outfit,Ittehad-e-Millat Council (IMC),and Islam Sabir, father of Shahzil, for attending Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadavs laptop distribution programme on June 9. Raza was appointed on May 27. However,he has decided not to take up the assignment until he meets Mulayam.
There is no sense in accepting the post if my demands are not met. They had given me assurance before appointing me. Now,both Mulayam and Akhilesh are not giving me appointment. Last Thursday,I got a call from Mulayam and I am hopeful of meeting him on June 20, he stated.
Razas main demand include constitution of a committee of senior government officials to probe the communal riots that have occurred since Akhilesh took charge as CM. Raza is not satisfied with the investigation being done by local police and demanded a probe by a committee of officials.
Raza also objected to compensation given to family members of Nanhey Yadav, the slain village pradhan of Ballipur. If my demands are not met,I will reject the post with a thanks. Then we will contest Lok Sabha elections against Mulayams party, he stated.
Meanwhile,Shahzil said that he is hopeful Raza will calm down after meeting Mulayam. We have fixed his appointment with the SP president and hopefully things will settle down. We are trying to reason out with him. Veerpal Singh Yadav, the district unit president of SP,too,is working towards settling the issue. All depends on the June 20 meeting, he added.
