The CBI Wednesday arrested Pappu Yadav against whom Badaun court had issued a non-bailable warrant for failing to appear before it in connection with the alleged gangrape and murder of two Dalit sisters whose bodies were found hanging from a tree in Katra Sadatganj in Badaun on May 28, 2014. The Badaun court in October 2015 had issued summon against prime accused Pappu Yadav after rejecting CBI’s closure report in the case. The investigating agency had stated in its closure report, filed in December 2014, that the girls had committed suicide and were neither sexually assaulted nor killed. When Yadav did not appear for the hearing, the court issued the warrant against him. CBI spokesperson R K Gaur said, “Pappu Yadav was arrested on Wednesday and produced before the court which has sent him to judicial custody. The court will next hear the matter on Thursday.”
