A cleric of Badaun, Usaid-ul-Haq Mohammad Qadir (38), who was also Nayab Qazi of the district, was killed in a shootout in Baghdad on Tuesday where he had gone for pilgrimage.
Another Badaun resident Hafiz Abdul Qayuum, who was accompanying him, also suffered gunshot injuries. Qadir, along with his father Abdul Hameed Mohammad Salim Qadari, who is Badaun’s Qazi and brother Atees Qadari, was part of a group of 25 Indians who were on a tour of Baghdad since February 25 this year.
When contacted, Qadir’s younger brother Mohammad Azzan said, “On Tuesday, six persons including Qadir were going to Sulaymaniyah province, around 290 km from Baghdad, in a car when they were targeted by armed men.” He added they came to know about Qadir’s death through his brother Atees.
“My brother died while Hafiz Abdul Qayuum and the car’s driver sustained bullet injury on their legs.” Azzan also told that the body was buried on Wednesday in Baghdad. When contacted, Superintendent of Police, Badaun, Atul Saxena said he has also come to know about Nayab Qazi’s death in Baghdad.
